The Storm Hits, and Brings New Members!

Spark jumps to the High Stone, shivering with cold even through her thick coat of fur. "ThunderPack," she says, afyter howling for their attention. "The storm has begun!" And indeed, the snow was falling thickly now, already starting to accumulate on the ground in some places. "But first," she continued, "I would like to announce some new members. Ice and Amber have come from another pack called Lighteningpack, where the leader killed most of his packmates. Brambles, Moona, Luna and Night have also joined us! And Night brings a pup, Timber! Thank you for bringing new life to this pack, although you do so at a hard time." She looks down to Timber, shvering in the snow. "We will try to get him warmed up," she said, grimacing. "So, the preparations begin. I want all the freshkill pulled underneath the High Stone. You will all sleep here tonight. he Stone will be a great barrier keeping the wind off us from this side. When the snow gets high enough, we will dig tunnels for ourselvs. These caves will shelter us for who knows how long, so dig them well. Night, try not to let Timber touch the ground, because it is very cold. I'm sure you know this already, but keep him on top of your body in the cave you dig. When you get hungry, make your way to the freshkill pile and take something, but make sure to leave enough for the others. I don't want any adventurers either," she added, looking down at Puff, who was staring off into the woods with a curious expression on her face. "We don't need anyone to get lost in the blizzard." Just then the winds picked up, and Spark quickly jumped off the High Stone, yelling "Meeting dismissed!" as she went.

  1. 'Hmmm' she thought to herself and wandered around the ice covered clearing while everyone was shivering in thier dens. She sat down with a wild look on her face and didnt move.
    ~Puff

"Puff!" he growled from the trainee den "Get in! You'll freeze your tail off!" she slinked out of the den, shivering, and nudged Puff.
    ~Sleet

"Huh?" she looked at him with confused eyes "Something weird..." she trailed off her eyes clearing for the first time in many moons "Woah! Starpack! Its cold!" she leaped up and ran to the den.
    ~Puff

  2. Spark frowned as she watched Puff from under the High Rock. She seemed so innocent...It could be nothing, just a trainee's daydreams's but pehaps it was something more. She would talk to Puff and usk about it the next chance she had.
The snow lay thickly now, about a foot high. She dug down, scraping the ground with her claws, to shelter from the wind. Ember, her brother, lay his head down on his back, and she gratefully accepted his added warmth. Their long-time family friend, Blaze, curled up beside Ember, adding his own heat. Spark shivered not only in the cold, but in pleasure. This blizzard seemed to be bringing the pack together more. Everywhere she looked, her pack seemed to be huddling together for warmth. She sighed. Suddenly Blaze raised his head.
"Spark, in times like these, you know what we need most?" he asked, his ears perked up excitedly.
    "What?" Spark asked drowsily.
"Stories! Remember, mother used to tell us stories when it was snowing..." he trailed off. Although Spark and Ember weren't blood related to Blaze, he had lived with them since they were young cubs, after his parents had been killed. Now he seemed lost in his memories, and Spark, feeling sympathetic, got up and stretched.
"You're right, Blaze." She howled, and the pack looked at her. "ThunderPack, I would now like to share with you a tradition my family passed down from generation to generation. The tellings of stories in the snow. I shall tell the first one.
"Once upon a time, long ago, there were four clans. ThunderClan, RiverClan, WindClan, and ShadowClan. Twolegs were destroying their territories, and they were starving. StarClan needed to do something, so they called upon four cats, one from each clan. Brambleclaw, Tawnypelt, Stormfur, and Crowfeather. These cats journeyed to Midnight, a badger..." [I'm sure you all know how this ends, so I'll stop here]

    Do you have any stories?

  3. She shivered in the den. Was life always...so...real? Her whole life real life was blurry and hard to understand. Why did life chose to show its true face now? She sat down thinking, not like she had before, staring amilessly into the air, but really thinking! Woah! Her brain! It held so amny things! She wondered if everyone's brained worked like hers, she desided to test "Hey Sleet,do you know...Why it snows?"
    ~Puff

"Why do you need to know?" she grumbled "Snow is water and water falls from the sky as rain. So when its frozen it falls as snow. Tickbrain" she muttered quietly
    ~Sleet

Oh! So it did! Because that was what she was thinking. Her fission suddenly fuzzied and she went back into her usual state of mind, loopy and un-knowing.

  5. She sat up and watched the snow fall. So pretty...Thought Creek as she just stared at it. Soon, getting tired and realizing her other den mates had fallen asleep...She curled up and tried to get warm.

  6. Star curled up beside Puff, her black fur dappled with snow. Hesitantly, she put her head on her paws. She liked snow (obviously), but blizzards always worried her. She thought it had something to do with her birth. She had been born in a blizzard, a blizzard that had taken the lives of her twin brother, who had only been alive for barely an hour, and her mother, who had died protecting Star from the storm. Star drifted off into an uneasy sleep, her dreams full of wind, snow, and a pup's mournful howls

  7. "No problem Ice, Amber," Spark said, nodding to them each in turn.
"We also have another new packmate, Echo! We welcome him. Even in a blizzard, our pack still grows," she mused wuietly to herself.
    ~Spark

Echo wasn't sure where to go. He had just journeyed down from the mountains, where he had been a loner, to seek pack life. He wasn't used to being around so many dogs, and all of them friendly. He didn't want to go sit with Spark and her family, because they seemed to be of the highest status, and he was just a new warrior, but he wasn't sure if it would be wierd if he sat with the trainees. By now everyone had settled into little groups, beginning to bee totally covered by the three or more feet of snow. Echo waded to the High Stone and dug down, pressing his back against the cold surface, and sighed. He put his head on his paws and closed his eyes, content knowing that there were other dogs that were friendly, and he hoped...no, he knew...that the wolves chasing him were gone....
But here he lost consciousness, and fell asleep, for the first time in ages not forced to sleep with one eye open.
    (hint, hint)

  8. Ice shivered as she picked up a stiff rabbit from the fresh-kill pile to share with Amber. "Great Starpack, it's cold," she mutterd to herself, curling up beside her twin. The two ate the rabbit in silence, watching the snow fall down in front of them.

  10. Star looked over to where Echo was lying in the snow. "Do you think I should go invite him to come over here?", she asked Puff. "He looks really lonely, and we need to huddle together for warmth."

  11. Echo's ear perked up. Had he heard his name...? But all around him was the white walls of his snow cave. He curled his tail up around his nose and dozed off into another one of his restless dreams. In it he was sprinting away from several shadowy forms that were chasing him. He dodged trees, jumped fallen logs, and splashed through streams. The sunlight trickled down through the leaves, sometimes blinding him for a split-second. Still he ran on, gasping for breath, but the shadows behind him never seemed to tire. He couldn't run anymore, his legs gave out, and fe fell into a heap on the ground, shuddering, tired from running. Adrenaline pumped through his vains, and he was shaking...because he was freezing! Echo jerked awake, yelping. He was breathing hard. What just happened? he thought wildly. For he could remember none of his dream.

  12. Star had walked to where Echo was sleeping. She saw him shaking in his sleep, saw the fear in his eyes when he woke, which faded within a few seconds. "Echo?", she asked softly. "Do you want to...um.....come sleep with us trainees? Its really cold......"

    'Obviously', she thought to herself.

"And, well....you, I mean we need warmth, and you looked kind of lonely so......", she trailed off, looking down at her paws in awkwardness.

    ~Star

[That is undoubtedly the most awkward post I have ever written. LOL]

  13. She jumpped up and loped over "Yeah! Come on and get warm!" she smiled, her puffy cheaks puffying out in a funny way.
    ~Puff
(Hmmm wonder how she got the name 'Puff'...)

  14. "Come on!", Star said. "It's not like we're going to stand by and let you freeze." She smiled encouragingly.

  15. Echo blinked through the snow, drawing back warily. Hesitantly he said, "Um, thanks, but..." he trailed off. But what? These dogs seemed perfectly fine, not at all like...he shuddered again. He looked up again. "I'd love to," he said strongly, "thanks." He followed them over to where the trainee's were huddled together. They weren't much younger than himself. He was only just over a year old. He smiled, settling down in the snow. It definitely was warmer here.

  16. "Cool!" she snuggeled down into the snow and shivered against his cold fur. "Yowch! Get cold much?"

  17. Star smiled to herself. She had hated to see Echo so alone. He was always off by himself, brooding. She settled herself down, Puff's fur on one side, Echo's on the other. She nestled into the snow. She drifted off to sleep, comforted by her friends' warmth, and dreamed of the strange scents carried on Echo's fur.

  18. Echo fell into a light sleep, and was not troubled any more by nightmares-that night.

    ~Echo

(And I think that just about wraps up the blizzard, folks! If you want you can still comment here, it's okay!)

  19. "The storm is OVER!!!", Star howled, waking up the trainees and Echo, all of who muttered, still sleepy.

Aside, she said to Echo, "From now on, sleep with the warriors [is that what you call them, BTW], or we will be forced to dig you out-literally!" She smiled, then bounded off with Puff.

    ~Star

  20. (Yes, pretty much someone no longer a trainee, but doesn't have a trainee themselves yet. Otherwise they would be a trainer. I know, confusing right? haha)

Echo rolled over, watching Star retreat away. Warriors? he thought. Hhhhm...He got up, shaking his fur off to dislodge the snow clumped there. Looking around, he saw a bunch of older dogs. Although he would much rather stay with the trainees, who seemed cheerful ll the time, he wanted more then ever to just fit in somewhere. He loped through the snow to them, falling up to his chi in snow. "Hi," he mumbled when he reached them. He wanted to shake his fur again, but didn't want to splatter them with snow. Instead he lay down, plastered in snow, and sighed again, closing his eyes at a feeble attempt to blend in with the snow.

    ~Echo
    (aaaw, he seems so depressed)

  21. "Hello Echo" she nodded to the weak looking dog.
    ~Kisharu

"Hey Echo! Have fun sleeping in the snow?" she looked at the clumps of snow on his fur.
    ~Mernen

He nodded to the smaller warrior not wasting his words on him.
    ~Hakouro

"Bye Echo! Wanna go...hunting later?" she waved her tail energetically from the side of the clearing
    ~Puff

  22. "Yes! It'll be fun!" Star called from next to Puff. Aside to Puff she said, "Is there EVER a way to stop Echo from being depressed?!?! I feel so bad for him........" *tries to think up plan*

    ~Star

[No seriously, is there a way to make Echo happy?]

    ReplyDelete
  23. (I have a plan for Echo, don't worry ;) )

Echo glanced back at Star and Puff and nodded, not wanting to shout and make a scene.

    ~Echo
